We hope this message finds you well. We appreciate your continued interest and engagement with the Southeast Valley Community Plans Update Program. The community plans update program is a long range planning program which sets overarching vision, goals, and policies for the future of the Southeast Valley. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our communities and workplaces in many ways and presented its own set of challenges to our work program. We thank you for your patience and continued participation as the Department adapts materials, presentations, and events to include virtual and remote outreach and engagement during this past year.

Los Angeles City Planning recently announced that in order to support Ventura Boulevard's post-pandemic recovery, the Ventura-Cahuenga Specific Plan Amendment Unit will focus on issues of immediate concern to businesses and stakeholders along the Corridor. This includes streamlining signage clearances, modernizing Project Impact Assessment (PIA) fee expenditures, and improving mobility along the Corridor, in order to ensure that businesses get the help they need. The original City Council motion regarding the Ventura-Cahuenga Boulevard Corridor Specific Plan Amendment can be found under Council File No. 17-1071. The team will be hosting virtual outreach events on the latest proposals on October 27, November 2 and November 4, more information available online here.

LACP will address the rezoning portion of the Ventura-Cahuenga Specific Plan Amendment as part of the Community Plan Updates underway in the Southeast and Southwest Valley. This approach will use the City’s resources more effectively and allows for zoning that can be tailored by community, while supporting a holistic approach to land use planning for the Ventura Boulevard corridor. The Community Plans seek to align land use with incoming infrastructure, respond to changing market conditions and demographic projections, and create opportunities for housing and employment. Including Ventura Boulevard in this effort is a logical step to create an integrated land use plan that reflects a collective vision for the South Valley.

The Southeast Valley Community Plan Updates team plans to do targeted outreach for the Ventura corridor in early 2022, followed by a Draft General Plan Land Use public workshop for all of the Southeast Valley Community Plan Areas, including the Ventura corridor later in 2022. We will be in touch in the near future with more information regarding outreach for Ventura Boulevard.
