The Urban Design Studio leads initiatives at the citywide and neighborhood levels. These work programs support the City’s mobility, housing, and environmental sustainability objectives.
- The three design approaches of the Citywide Design Guidelines provide the framework for the City’s urban design policy.
- The Healthy Buildings, Healthy Places initiative is updating zoning codes and policies to reflect the latest thinking about building design for healthy communities.
- Wayfinding signage at privately owned public spaces (POPS) and the L.A. River improves access to open space and neighborhood amenities.
- Streetscape Plans, like those recently completed for major corridors in South Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, improve safety, deliver shade, and beautify the area.
Stay tuned for updates on the Studio’s Low Rise Design Lab and Adaptive Reuse initiatives, launching in 2023.
