Student Professional Worker (Government and Civic Engagement)

Los Angeles City Planning is accepting applications for a Student Professional Worker (SPW) position in the External Affairs Unit, working alongside the Government and Civic Engagement Team for a minimum period of one year. The position is open to a junior, senior, or graduate student in good academic standing at an accredited four-year college or university who is working toward a degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a relevant field.

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Preparing responses to public inquiries on behalf of Los Angeles City Planning; 
  • Maintaining City Planning’s outreach and engagement log;
  • Developing training materials as part of community outreach;
  • Handling logistics and execution of community events;
  • Aggregating news stories and daily news clippings for the Executive Team;
  • Drafting content for informational brochures, pamphlets, and newsletters;
  • Staffing events, taking photos, and assisting with check-in;
  • Assisting with the preparation of City Council and Committee packets.

Student Professional Worker (Communications and Graphics)

Los Angeles City Planning is accepting applications for a Student Professional Worker (SPW) position in the External Affairs Unit, working alongside the Communications and Graphics Team for a minimum period of one year. The position is open to a junior, senior, or graduate student in good academic standing at an accredited four-year college or university who is working toward a degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a relevant field.

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting with the execution of City Planning’s social media plan on all official platforms, drafting content and assisting with video editing/production;
  • Aggregating news stories and daily news clippings for Executive Team;
  • Designing informational brochures, pamphlets, and marketing materials;
  • Managing City Planning’s photo library for the Unit;
  • Supporting interdepartmental communications;
  • Assisting with website redesign.
